Take Flight: Rebuild… again
Well there it is folks, the official beginning to another rebuild for the team that plays in the swamps of New Jersey. For the third time in 6 years the New York Jets will begin rebuilding and reshaping this roster for the future under Darren Mougey and Aaron Glenn’s leadership. The age old question will continue to be: can these guys shape the future of this franchise for success? I’m not saying you have to hoist the Lombardi, but can you be competitive? It feels like ages ago at this point that promising young stars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams would be pivotal pieces in returning the Jets to somewhat competency, but as the clock struck 4 pm and the NFL trade deadline had concluded both will be donning new uniforms. By no means do I think these trades were the wrong idea, if anything it is the complete opposite. As it stands now at 1-7 coming out of the bye the future of this team continues to be in disarray with no end in sight. So for the likes of players like Gardner and Williams to receive return value of 3 total first rounds picks, 1 second rounder, a wide receiver, and d tackle you make the trade everyday of the week. To paraphrase the great Alan Hahn, a piece of my Jets fandom did die on that fourth snap of the season on Monday Night Football when Aaron Rodgers tore his achilles. What looked like such a promising opportunity with a young and hungry defense combined with young stars in Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson it all but ended four snaps into the year. That is pretty much the day this new rebuild started, we just didn’t know it yet. Either that day or heading into week 6 of the ’24 season with the division on the line and then head coach Robert Saleh was fired. This franchise is plagued by an owner that consistently makes decisions on matters he knows nothing about, the Jets to him are just a shiny toy that he gets to play with no matter if he breaks pieces off or not. So when former top ten picks Sauce Gardner (Colts) and Quinnen Williams (Cowboys) don their new uniforms it’ll all kick in once again for Jets fans that we are in the midst of another rebuild and unfortunately to the dislike of Aaron Glenn, they will continue to be known as the Same Old Jets.
